An important workshop dedicated to the conservation of elasmobranchs is set to take place on the 21st and 22nd of May 2025 under the coordination of several leading research institutions: the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, CNR IRBIM, the University of Palermo, and the University of Padua, in collaboration with WWF. The initiative is promoted within the framework of three major international projects: LIFE Prometheus,LIFE European Sharks and LIFE ELIFE.
The aim of the workshop is to support the development of effective management and conservation strategies for elasmobranch species inhabiting Italian waters. The program spans two days: the first will feature presentations from researchers and institutions active in this field, while the second day will focus on presenting and discussing the objectives of a new Action Plan, followed by a roundtable with institutional representatives.
This workshop represents a key opportunity to strengthen collaboration between scientific institutions, environmental organizations, and policy-makers — all working toward the shared goal of protecting marine biodiversity.
