The Life PROMETHEUS live interviews with shark experts started with invited experts from Greece and Cyprus.

Two “Shark Talks” were already held, in Greek, and broadcasted live through Instagram with the aim to inform the public on different shark and ray aspects in the Mediterranean.

The first “Shark Talk” entitled “From Science to Action: Safeguarding Sharks and Rays in Greece” was organised by iSea and hosted Ioannis Giovos, Vice Chair of the IUCN SSC Shark Specialist Group for the Mediterranean and President of the European Elasmobranch Association. The interview provided insights about sharks and rays in Greece, their conservation status, according to their recent assessment for the Greek Red List, and the path to their effective conservation.

The second “Shark Talk” entitled “Sharks and rays in Cyprus: How Citizen Science filled important knowledge gaps and the case of guitarfishes” was organized by Marine & Environmental Research (MER) Lab and hosted Christina Michail, marine biologist and Citizen Science Project Manager for sharks and rays in Cyprus. The interview provided insights about the shark and ray species of the island, the contribution of Citizen Science in filling important knowledge gaps, and the study of guitarfish in Cyprus.

Enric Massutí, a Research Professor at the Spanish Oceanographic Institute in the Balearic Islands, with more than 25 years of expertise in research.
