1st inter-club cuttlefish-squid fishing competition from a boat held in Koronisia, Arta (Amvrakikos) on Sunday 13-04-25, co-organized by theThe Life PROMETHEUS (LIFE23 NAT/IT/101148295) Project, coordinated by UNIVPM, is 60% co-financed by the EU LIFE+ Funding Programmeathletic recreational fishing association “The Amvrakikos”, the Municipality of Arta & the (EOUDA) Greek Federation of Underwater Activities and Sport Fishing. iSea was invited to participate in the event giving a talk on the role recreational fishers can play in the protection of the environment and a presentation was prepared that included PROMETHEUS project its aims and objectives and particularly WP5 (testing Blue Crab Traps) and WP4 (Testing Detterents) were discussed. The event was attended by 30 recreational fishers who participated in the competition, the mayor of Arta and the vice mayor, the president of the Greek Federation of Underwater Activities and Sport Fishing (EOUDA), the president of the organizing association “The Amvrakikos” as well as the president of professional fishers organisation of Arta and the local port police. Finally, the association for children with disabilities “Agia Theodora” was present as they were the ones who were receiving all the catches as a donation. The project was very interesting to attendants who listened carefully to its objectives and how they can participate. There was no attendance list, but communication cards were distributed for the fishers to report elasmobranchs that were released and/or tagged. These fishers will be possibly involved in activities that have to do with LEK knowledge questionnaires in WP3.
